The story
A contemporary cocktail drawing inspiration from Scottish ingredients and flavor profiles. The name 'Tartan' references the traditional Scottish plaid pattern, symbolizing the blend of Scottish elements in the drink.
Variations
Some variations use a peated Islay Scotch for more smoke, or add a barspoon of honey syrup for additional sweetness. A lemon peel can substitute for orange.
Host tips
Use a Highland or Speyside Scotch for balance unless you specifically want the intense peat smoke of an Islay. The sweet vermouth quality significantly impacts the final flavor.
